Shannon Flanagan Burge, of Carriere, MS, peacefully ascended to her heavenly home on Good Friday, March 29, 2024, at the age of 56, with her husband and sister at her side.

Born in New Orleans on January 12, 1968. Shannon loved the great outdoors, was a dog-lover and avid Saints fan, but her biggest passion in life was her cherished family. Known for gentleness, her smile and robust beautiful laugh, Shannon was a friend to everyone she met. She had a delightful spirit of wanderlust and would go camping any time she could and imagined the places she would eventually travel. In the Spring of 2010, she would fulfill a lifelong dream by travelling overseas to Ireland with her father George along with her best friend and sister Shelley to explore their Flanagan name's native homeland, which proved to be only the beginning of many more profound and inspiring travel highlights she would experience. After their joyful marriage on November 2, 2013, her devoted and loving husband Brad Burge would accompany her to places far and wide, whether it would be in their RV at an easy to access natural park or a road trip to the Mountains or a Florida beach, they would often share these trips with family and friends. In recent years, Brad and Shannon turned up the dial on dream travel to Whistler, British Columbia, and took the RV for weeks out West, as well as into the Pacific Northwest, and down the coast into Florida.

Shannon was well-known as the best of the best during her long and profoundly impactful career as a RN III at Ochsner Medical Center Northshore. She was also the Director of Med-Surg/ICU at both Highland Community Hospital and Ochsner Medical Center Hancock. She had a positive effect on all her patients in ways that would be hard to describe in words. Dedication and a huge heart was what she always brought to them in their suffering. Shannon proudly earned her 3rd and final degree in Nursing from Louisiana Tech University in 1996 after completing her Bachelor's degree in Education and Master's degree in Kinesiology from Northeast University in Monroe. As a younger student at Northshore High School in Slidell, Shannon excelled as a star athlete in volleyball, basketball, and softball, earning Championships and even MVP as a catcher in women's softball.

Shannon relished spending time with friends, neighbors, and family at her beautiful 20-acre property and farmhouse in Carriere, Mississippi while listening to country music during their frequent barbecues and crawfish boils out back. Their peaceful home alongside a catfish pond with fields and forest in all directions made for making great memories. Drinking a few beverages and/or sipping on coffee, while relaxing on the patio by the pool and watching the hummingbirds were simple pleasures they treasured.

Most importantly and above all, Shannon was devout and prayerful, growing beyond measure in her faith in her final years, which gave her great comfort as she transitioned to heaven with grace and immense love for her Lord.

Shannon was preceded in death by her father George Ernest Flanagan, Jr. and stepfather Joseph Martin Shoemaker, Jr. She is survived by her devoted husband Charles Bradley Burge, her two stepchildren, Dianna Burge, and Braiden Burge, loving mother Betty Shoemaker, sister Shelley Flanagan Rainey (Michael), stepbrothers Jon Shoemaker (Laura), Byron Shoemaker, and Eric Shoemaker, as well as her nieces Emma Rainey, and Clara Rainey. She is also survived by several beloved cousins and friends.

on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 12:00 P.M.

Visitation at the funeral home on Thursday after 10:00 A.M. until funeral time. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
