Obituary

Sharon Lorraine Gibson, 72, a native of Washington State and longtime resident of Slidell, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2024, in Slidell, Louisiana.

Sharon was born on January 11, 1952, to Harvey and Elizabeth Ellen Mann in Kirkland, Washington. She graduated from Soap Lake High School in 1970 and attended ITT Peterson School of Business. She later worked as an accounting clerk for the U.S. Coast Guard and as a bankruptcy clerk for the Internal Revenue Service in New Orleans.

Sharon will always be remembered as a Loving Wife, Mom, Mimi and to many, Friend. She was a creative soul that loved sewing and crafting – especially small stuffed animals for her grandchildren. More than anything, Sharon enjoyed spending her time with her family and going to every sporting event, recital or school event that her children and grandchildren were in.

Small things in life brought Sharon joy like collecting salt & pepper shakers and pelicans. Her spirit was always lifted by seeing hummingbirds in the yard, pansies, and sitting outside feeling the breeze under the trees. She especially loved being Mimi to her nine grandchildren.

In retirement, she loved to travel with her husband, visiting different places and walking through antique shops and flea markets. She even achieved her wish to see and walk on a covered bridge, and always enjoyed visiting Noccalula Falls Park when traveling through Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Elizabeth Mann; brother Jerry Lee Mann; and sisters, Barbara Jensen, Nela Jensen and Donna Kunish.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Joseph Gibson of Slidell; sons, Alec Gibson of Johnson City, Tennessee, Ryan Gibson of Leesville, Louisiana; daughters, Elizabeth DeArmas and Helayne Gibson of Slidell; and a brother, Les Mann of Silver Lake, Washington.  She is also survived by her five grandsons: Drake Gibson, Luke Gibson, Logan Gibson, Patrick Gibson and Toran Gibson; and her four granddaughters: Quinn Gibson, Bailee Messina, Kinley Carlin and Hazel DeArmas.

Her surviving extended family includes her sisters-in-law, Martha Thornhill, Myrtle Williams and Delia Beth Johnson; brother-in-law, Dennis Johnson; and her closest and dearest friend Sue Royes.

A celebration of Sharon's life will be held at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd West, Slidell, Louisiana, on Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 12:00pm until 2:00pm.
