Slidell
Shirley June Ottmers (Ogden-Rodriguez-Flick), 84, a resident of Slidell, LA since 1975 passed away from medical complications on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
She was born in Marble Falls, TX on June 8, 1941, to her loving parents Alton Arthur Ottmers and Irene Dorothy Ottmers. In July 1959 in San Antonio, TX, she married Ronald Allen Ogden of Nixon, TX. Their 21-year marriage produced three children: Terri Shirlane Ogden (deceased), Allen Everett Ogden, and Dana Lauraine Ogden-Rovira. In June of 1983, she married Larry Joseph Rodriguez Sr. They were married for 26 years, until Larry's death. Larry is survived by three children: Larry Joseph Rodriguez Jr., Sharon Rodriguez, and Todd Anthony Rodriguez.
Shirley's life was a testament to her unwavering love for her family, friends, and for those less fortunate. She was a loving and dedicated mother to her three children, Larry's children, many grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was strong in her faith and showed people God by showing them God's love. She had a servant's heart, always led by example, and lived her life with grace and dignity even until the end. She was a strong advocate for people with special needs and for children and families facing medical challenges as witnessed by her work with STARC, Special Olympics, and Ruby's Kids, to name a few of the organizations she dedicated her time and energy to. She had many causes she supported and a very busy social calendar. She loved traveling, being with her friends in the Slidell Area Car Club, the Bunko Club, and the Red Hat Club. She always gave more than was required and went above and beyond to help those in need.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; Alton Arthur Ottmers and Irene Dorothy Ottmers; brothers, Alton "Wayne" Ottmers, David Edward "Eddie" Ottmers, Charles "Charlie" Ray Ottmers; sister, Darlene "Patsy" Ottmers-Nichols; her eldest daughter, Terri Shirlane Ogden; and her second husband, Larry Joseph Rodriguez, Sr.
She is survived by her children: Allen Everett Ogden and Dana Lauraine Ogden-Rovira; Son-in-law, Michael James Rovira; daughters-in-law, Jessie Gilchrist Meldrum-Ogden, Sarah Ogden; her grandchildren, Leah Michelle Rosson, Amanda "Mandy" Nicole Chesley, Erin Lee Ogden, Michael Brian Rovira, Elizabeth "Liz" Leanne Rovira, Christopher Daniel Rovira, Brent Allen Rovira, and Rachael Elise Rovira; Grand-daughters-in-law, Hailey Armke-Rovira, Amanda Watts-Rovira; her great-grandchildren, Aiden Quinn Rosson, Conner Allen Ogden, Aries Jackson Chesley, Cheyenne Blake Rovira, Callie Jo Rovira, Colton Brian Rovira, and countless nieces and nephews.
Many lives were blessed by her time on this earth. She has left her physical body and is now in her heavenly body. She was a beautiful soul who is now at peace with those who have gone before her.
