Susan Gail Sortina, 81, passed away peacefully at her home in Slidell, Louisiana on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

Susan was born on October 18, 1944, in Montgomery, Alabama to Frances Allred and Harold Shaw.  As a young child, Susan lived in Oakland, Indiana with her father. She later moved with him to New Orleans, Louisiana, where she met the love of her life, Louis Thomas Sortina. The two were married in 1961, and over the 65 years of their marriage, they built a life, family, and loving home together.

Susan was a gentle, kind-hearted woman, who always tried to help others in whatever way she could. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Family was her everything. Susan loved being a homemaker, caregiver, and hairdresser. She also enjoyed "rattin' the streets" visiting with loved ones, dining out, vacationing, cheering on Drew Brees, and all things Elvis Presley. She was one of a kind and will truly be missed.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Harold Shaw; her grandmother, Lola Shaw, her Aunt Pearl, Aunt Mary, and Uncle Charles; and her in-laws, Anthony and Antoinette Sortina; as well as her siblings, Charles McCawley, Donnie McCawley, Vickie Warchol, Lola Monroe, and Ronald Sortina.

Susan is survived by her husband, Louis Sortina; her sons, Chris Allen Sortina and Rodney Wayne Sortina; her daughters-in-law, Sharon O. Sortina and Elvina D. Sortina; her grandchildren, Sage Sortina, Cole Sortina, and Gabrielle DiBartolo; her sisters, Mary Duplesses (Anthony) and Gaynell Chatham (Ronnie); her brothers, Nick Sortina (Kathryn) and Andrew Sortina (Claudia); and numerous nieces and nephews.

To celebrate Susan's life, relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell, LA 70460, on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 10:00am – 1:00pm.

Interment will follow at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Drive, Slidell, LA 70460 at 1:30pm.
