Velma Brooks Heitzmann, 88, of Pearl River, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

Velma was born June 19, 1933 in Winnsboro, Louisiana, to Jimmie Brooks and Cleora Rose Zeagler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Heitzmann; two children, Alfred Jay Heitzmann Jr., Beverly Gaethe Martin; two sisters, O'Dell Scott, Barbara Adamo; and lifelong best friend, Mary Ann Tines.

Velma is survived by three grandchildren, Brooks Zitzmann, Bri Steilberg, Bethany Brown; five great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Brooks Steilberg, Noah Steilberg, Alex Steilberg, Tristan Brown, and Arthur Brown.

Velma had traveled to fourty-eight states, was an avid reader, and deeply devoted to her faith. When she wasn't laughing with her family, she could be found with a house full of dear friends playing cards or dominos. Members of her church community as well as her neighbors created a second family for her that she held dear to her heart.

Funeral Services will be held at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd West, Slidell, Louisiana, on Monday, February 28, 2022, at 2:00pm.

Friends may visit at the Funeral Home on Monday beginning at 12:00 noon.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
