William Harold McCarter, JR, age 73, of Slidell, LA, departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. Born in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI on April 30, 1950, "Billy" is the beloved son of the late William H. McCarter Sr. and Maryann B. McCarter. Survived by his sister Diana McCarter of Philadelphia, PA. and brother Steven McCarter Sr., Slidell; a nephew, Steven McCarter Jr., and a great nephew, Breck McCarter. Billy was 12 when he moved from Roseville, MI. to Louisiana in 1962. This move involved a 3-week family boat trip down the Mississippi river where Billy broke 4 of his toes the second day out. This was more of a pleasure cruise for him much to the chagrin of his brother and sister.

After moving to Palm Lake in Slidell in 1965 from New Orleans West Bank, he was very happy as he loved to fish for green trout and would bring home snakes that he'd find. He would carefully tie his fishing line around their head & pull them home behind his bike. (They were poisonous as he would come to find out!). That same summer he experienced his first eye of the hurricane, Betsy, pulling all the water out of Palm Lake and then the 10' storm surge flooding all the Bayou Liberty area up to the railroad tracks.

He graduated from Slidell High in 1969. He was a past volunteer with the Slidell Jaycees. After 20 years he retired from K B Kaufmann & Co Inc. where rumor has it that he was never late! Folks found him very dedicated and a pleasure to work with.

Billy was a quiet man, a kind gentle soul always willing to give a helping hand and often looking for "treasures". He was loved and will be missed.
